Winterwood Farm, located in the Royal River watershed, in Freeport was conserved with a forever farm conservation easement through great efforts by The Freeport Land Trust. Maine’s Land for Maine’s future, The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, The Maine Farmland Trust and The Maine Water Company all contributed to the purchase of the conservation easement, and funds were also raised by individual donors.
The preservation of Winterwood Farm is assuring that great agricultural soils are being protected, as well as the drinking water for the town of Freeport. Winterwood Farm, currently has two barns, a home and 46 acres of land. With this conservation easement the farm will never be developed, and will always remain a farm.
