Interpretation

Dr. Samuel S. Ristich was an entomologist, mycologist (fungi specialist), lover of nature, and enthusiastic teacher who led seasonal monthly public walks on these trails following his retirement from Cornell until he was 90 years old. Sam gained mycological immortality in 1983 by finding a new species in the family Amanita which was named Amanita ristichii in his honor.
