The 17-acre Thoits Branch Headwaters Preserve is among Royal River Conservation Trust’s initial acquisitions along Thoits Branch as it seeks to protect this vital Royal tributary. The preserve is not open to the public in formal ways and contains no trails.

Because the preserve is not yet open, RRCT has not posted rules. Safe hunting, as defined by state law, is permitted.
Royal River Conservation Trust protects and stewards properties, including Thoits Branch Headwaters Preserve, located within the traditional homelands of the Wabanaki. We strive to ensure that our properties are inclusive and accessible and provide opportunities for healing, education, and respite.
Habitat
The preserve falls into a large block of unfragmented habitat. The streambanks and wetlands of the Upper Thoits Branch watershed have been mapped by The Nature Conservancy as among the most resilient riparian climate corridors in southern Maine and will be important as the Royal watershed adapts to climate change.
