Thurston Wildlife Marsh
Description
The 96-acre Irving F. Thurston Wildlife Marsh is primarily owned by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries with a smaller parcel owned by Royal River Conservation Trust. The marsh is managed primarily for habitat, ecology, and sporting access (bird watching, hunting, snowshoeing, and trapping). Exploring the marsh on foot is best done with knee boots or waders with ski poles for balance. From the wetland perimeter of the road, bobolinks, savannah, swamp sparrows, yellow warblers, common yellowthroats, and snow buntings may be viewed during appropriate seasons. Mammal tracks are often visible near Meadow Brook. The brook is not navigable by most boats.
